The short version
- Tournament runs 11 June to 19 July 2026, hosted across the USA, Mexico and Canada.
- 48 teams, 12 groups, 104 matches: the first World Cup at this scale.
- Bookmakers price France (5.46), Spain (6.21) and England (9.09) as the three teams most likely to lift the trophy.
- For Singapore viewers, most group-stage matches kick off between 3:00 AM and 11:00 AM SGT.
- Nine AFC teams qualified, including debutants Uzbekistan, Jordan and Iraq.
The opening match, Mexico against South Africa at Estadio Azteca, kicks off at 3:00 AM SGT on 12 June 2026. By the time most Singaporeans wake up that morning, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is already underway. This guide covers what to expect from the tournament, where the value sits in the outright market, how to read Asian handicap prices on each fixture, and how to bet without burning a hole in your weekend.
I have spent the past three months tracking qualifying form, club-season fitness data and the major sportsbook lines for every Group Stage match. The numbers below are attributed where it matters and dated to the day they were recorded. Bookmark this page for the tournament window.
How the World Cup 2026 works (and why this one is different)
For the first time, FIFA has expanded the World Cup from 32 teams to 48. The format adds 16 more nations, eight extra Group Stage groups (12 in total), and a new Round of 32 knockout stage before the existing Round of 16. The tournament will play 104 matches over 39 days, with the United States, Mexico and Canada sharing hosting duties across 16 cities.
Each group has four teams. The top two from every group advance automatically, plus the eight best third-placed teams. That means 32 of the 48 teams will make the knockout phase, which keeps even the so-called minnows alive late into Group Stage week.
The opening fixture is in Mexico City. The final is at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 19 July 2026. For Singapore viewers, the broadcast window is mostly overnight: kick-offs run from 3:00 AM SGT for east-coast US matches up to 11:00 AM SGT for the few afternoon games in Canada. Plan your sleep accordingly.
The complete World Cup 2026 group draw
The draw was held at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on 5 December 2025. Here is the full breakdown by group, sorted alphabetically by group letter.
| Group | Team 1 | Team 2 | Team 3 | Team 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Mexico | South Korea | South Africa | Czechia |
| B | Canada | Switzerland | Qatar | Bosnia-Herzegovina |
| C | Brazil | Morocco | Haiti | Scotland |
| D | USA | Paraguay | Australia | Türkiye |
| E | Germany | Ivory Coast | Ecuador | Curaçao |
| F | Netherlands | Japan | Sweden | Tunisia |
| G | Belgium | Egypt | Iran | New Zealand |
| H | Spain | Uruguay | Saudi Arabia | Cape Verde |
| I | France | Senegal | Norway | Iraq |
| J | Argentina | Austria | Algeria | Jordan |
| K | Portugal | Colombia | DR Congo | Uzbekistan |
| L | England | Croatia | Ghana | Panama |
Two groups stand out as immediate talking points. Group F (Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Tunisia) looks the most balanced top to bottom, with Japan capable of taking points off any side. Group L (England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama) hands Croatia a near-instant rematch with the country that knocked them out of qualifying last cycle. The real “group of death” is debatable but Group I, with France facing back-to-back AFCON champions Senegal, is a strong shout.
Tournament favourites and the current odds
The table below shows outright winner prices posted on sureWin’s outright market, recorded on 20 May 2026, three weeks before kick-off. Implied probabilities are calculated as (1 / decimal odds) × 100. Prices move fast as squads are announced and friendlies are played, so always check live odds before staking.
| Team | Decimal odds | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|
| France | 5.46 | 18.3% |
| Spain | 6.21 | 16.1% |
| England | 9.09 | 11.0% |
| Argentina | 10.42 | 9.6% |
| Brazil | 10.53 | 9.5% |
| Portugal | 12.05 | 8.3% |
| Germany | 19.61 | 5.1% |
Why France leads the board
Didier Deschamps has the deepest spine of any squad heading into 2026. Mbappé carries the goal threat. The defensive partnership of Saliba and Upamecano is now one of the most settled in international football. France’s qualifying campaign was untidy in patches but they finished top of a competitive group without ever needing to be at full strength. At 5.46 the price is short, but France are the closest thing this tournament has to a deserving favourite.
Spain at 6.21 is the bookmaker bet
The Euro 2024 winners have not lost a competitive match since the 2022 World Cup Round of 16. Lamine Yamal is now 18 and starting every week for Barcelona. Rodri returns from his Ballon d’Or injury layoff fully fit. Spain’s only real concern is whether their high defensive line copes with the heat in Texas and Florida. Worth a small stake at this price.
England at 9.09: value or trap?
Thomas Tuchel inherits a squad with possibly the best attacking depth in world football. Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane and Watkins is an embarrassment of options. The pressure that has hounded every England side since 1966 is still there, and Tuchel will be judged in cycles of single matches. Above 9.00 there is some value, but you are paying for hope as much as form.
Argentina and Brazil: the South American case
Argentina arrive as defending champions with Messi at 38 likely playing his last World Cup. The squad around him is younger and more athletic than 2022. Brazil under Tite’s successor has stabilised after a rough qualifying middle. Both teams are priced almost identically and either could go deep, but bookmakers are no longer giving either the discount they used to.

Dark horses worth a small punt
The teams below sit outside the main favourite tier but have a clear route through their group and into the knockout phase. None are likely to win the tournament outright. All offer better value if you fancy a long-shot quarter-final or semi-final ticket.
- Netherlands. Tightest squad balance after France and Spain. Drawn in the toughest group, which depresses their outright price.
- Portugal. Already in the favourites list at 12.05. Worth a mention because their fixture path through the knockouts is gentler than England’s or Argentina’s.
- Croatia. 2022 bronze medallists. Modrić is 40 but still operating the midfield. Worth a small accumulator slot if you back them to make a semi-final.
- USA. Home advantage matters more than the market currently prices it. Drawn with Australia and Türkiye in Group D, the path to the Round of 16 is straightforward.
- Mexico. Opening match at Estadio Azteca, altitude on their side, raucous home crowd through the Group Stage.
How Asian teams shape the 2026 World Cup
Nine AFC teams qualified for 2026, the largest contingent in history. Three of them (Uzbekistan, Jordan and Iraq) are making their debuts. For Singapore viewers, this gives the tournament a regional flavour that previous editions lacked. Asian betting volume tends to spike on these fixtures.
Japan in Group F: the most credible Asian contender
Japan beat Germany and Spain at the 2022 tournament. Their 2026 squad is stronger, with Mitoma, Kubo and Endo all peaking. Drawn with Netherlands and Sweden, second place is the realistic ceiling, but a top-of-group finish is not impossible. Japan to qualify from the group sits around 1.45, a sensible accumulator anchor.
South Korea in Group A: Son’s last dance
Son Heung-min is 33 and almost certainly playing his last World Cup. Korea sit in Group A with Mexico, South Africa and Czechia, and their tournament opener is against Czechia. The price on Korea to reach the Round of 32 is short, but the +0.5 Asian handicap on the Mexico fixture has been trading between 1.95 and 2.05, which is fair given the altitude and travel disadvantage Korea face against the hosts.
Saudi Arabia drawn with Spain
The Roberto Mancini era has steadied the squad. Saudi will not beat Spain in Group H, but their fixtures against Uruguay and Cape Verde decide whether they sneak through as a best-third side. Watch the over 2.5 markets on the Cape Verde fixture; both defences are leaky.
Australia, Iran and the debutants
Australia drew the toughest non-favourite group (Group D with USA, Paraguay, Türkiye). Iran face Belgium in Group G and could trouble a Belgian side that is mid-rebuild. Of the debutants, Uzbekistan have the best chance of advancing. Placed in Group K with Portugal, Colombia and DR Congo, they only need to finish above DR Congo to threaten a best-third spot.
Singapore kick-off times for the opening week
All times are in SGT (GMT+8). The tournament runs across three US time zones, so kick-offs span a wide window. Save this table or screenshot it for the Group Stage. Times below are based on the venue-by-venue schedule released by FIFA in March 2026 and converted to SGT; confirm against your sportsbook’s live match list closer to kick-off.
| Date (SGT) | Match | Kick-off (SGT) | Stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri 12 Jun | Mexico vs South Africa | 03:00 | Group A · Opening match |
| Fri 12 Jun | South Korea vs Czechia | 10:00 | Group A |
| Sat 13 Jun | Canada vs Bosnia-Herzegovina | 03:00 | Group B |
| Sat 13 Jun | USA vs Paraguay | 09:00 | Group D |
| Sun 14 Jun | Qatar vs Switzerland | 03:00 | Group B |
| Sun 14 Jun | Brazil vs Morocco | 06:00 | Group C |

| Sun 14 Jun | Australia vs Türkiye | 12:00 | Group D |
| Mon 15 Jun | Germany vs Curaçao | 01:00 | Group E |
| Mon 15 Jun | Netherlands vs Japan | 04:00 | Group F |
| Mon 15 Jun | Ivory Coast vs Ecuador | 07:00 | Group E |
| Mon 15 Jun | Sweden vs Tunisia | 10:00 | Group F |
| Tue 16 Jun | Spain vs Cape Verde | 00:00 | Group H |
| Tue 16 Jun | Belgium vs Egypt | 03:00 | Group G |
| Tue 16 Jun | Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay | 06:00 | Group H |
| Tue 16 Jun | Iran vs New Zealand | 09:00 | Group G |
| Wed 17 Jun | France vs Senegal | 03:00 | Group I |
| Thu 18 Jun | England vs Croatia | 04:00 | Group L |
A note on dates and times: because matches span three US time zones (Eastern, Central, Pacific), SGT kick-offs range from midnight to noon. East-coast US matches that kick off at 3:00 PM ET appear as 3:00 AM SGT the following calendar day. Always confirm against your sportsbook live match list closer to kick-off, as schedules are occasionally adjusted by FIFA.
Asian handicap betting explained for Singapore bettors
Asian handicap is the default football market in Singapore and across most of Asia for one reason: it removes the draw. Where European 1X2 markets force you to pick win, draw, or loss, Asian handicap gives the underdog a head start (or the favourite a deficit) so every match resolves to two possible outcomes, not three.
Full-line handicaps (-1, 0, +1)
The simplest version. If you back Spain at -1 against Saudi Arabia, Spain must win by two or more goals for your bet to land. A one-goal Spain win returns your stake (push). A draw or Saudi win loses. Conversely, Saudi at +1 wins if Saudi draw or win outright; loses only if Spain wins by two or more.
Quarter-line and half-line handicaps
This is where Asian handicap gets its edge over the European version. A line of -0.25 means your stake is effectively split: half on 0, half on -0.5. So if Spain wins by any margin, both halves win. If they draw, the 0 half pushes (refund) and the -0.5 half loses, so you get half your stake back. Half-line handicaps like -0.5 are clean: it is either a win or a loss, no push.
A worked example
Say Spain are -1.5 against Saudi Arabia at decimal 1.85. You stake S$100. Spain wins 2-0: you collect S$185 (profit S$85). Spain wins 1-0: you lose your S$100 because the goal margin does not clear the -1.5 line. Spain draws or loses: same outcome. Compare that to a -1 line at 1.65, where a 1-0 win returns your stake (push) and only a two-goal Spain win delivers the full payout. The -1.5 at 1.85 carries more risk but more reward.
Quick rule of thumb: Use full-line handicaps when you want a refund safety net on a one-goal swing. Use half-line handicaps when you have a strong read on which side will win and want a cleaner payout.
Singapore Pools vs offshore sportsbooks: what’s the difference?
Singapore residents legally have two routes to bet on the World Cup: Singapore Pools (state-licensed) and offshore sportsbooks operating under recognised licences such as the Anjouan Internet Gaming Licence. sureWin holds licence number ALSI-202511046-FI2. Each route has trade-offs. The table below summarises them side-by-side. For a deeper breakdown of sureWin’s full sports-betting markets, see our dedicated guide.
| Feature | Singapore Pools | sureWin (offshore, Anjouan-licensed) |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status for SG residents | State-operated, fully legal | Legal to access; operator licensed offshore |
| Age minimum | 21+ | 21+ |
| Odds format | Fractional / decimal | Decimal, Hong Kong, American, Malay, Indonesian |
| Asian handicap depth | Limited lines | Full quarter and half lines on every match |
| In-play markets | Restricted | Full in-play including corners, cards, next goal |
| Outright markets | Winner, top scorer | Winner, top scorer, golden boot, group winner, stage of elimination |
| Withdrawal speed | Branch / online | Crypto and e-wallet, typically same-day |
| Welcome offer | None | Sign-up bonus on first deposit |
For a casual once-a-tournament bettor, Singapore Pools handles the basics. For anyone who wants serious Asian handicap depth, live in-play, or who values the wider props market (top scorer per group, fastest goal in tournament, etc.), an offshore sportsbook with a proper licence is the practical choice. Either way, set your budget before the first kick-off.
Bet responsibly during the World Cup
Read this section before you place a single bet
Football tournaments cause sharp spikes in problem gambling. The World Cup runs for 39 days and there are matches almost every single day. That schedule is engineered to tempt you into stakes you would never place on a normal weekend.
Set a budget for the entire tournament. Divide it by 39. That is your daily ceiling. If you lose a day’s allocation, the next day’s bets do not happen. There is no “winning it back”.
If you are in Singapore and gambling is causing financial, family or mental-health problems, call the National Council on Problem Gambling helpline at 1800-6-668-668. The line is free and operates 24 hours. Self-exclusion options and family support resources are available via NCPG’s official channels.
You must be 21 or older to gamble legally in Singapore. Do not bet under that age. For sureWin’s full responsible-gambling policy, deposit-limit controls, and self-exclusion form, see our responsible gaming page.

When does the FIFA World Cup 2026 start in Singapore time?
The opening match, Mexico against South Africa at Estadio Azteca, kicks off at 3:00 AM SGT on 12 June 2026. The tournament runs through to the final on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Most Group Stage matches will be played between 3:00 AM and 11:00 AM SGT.
Who is favourite to win the World Cup 2026?
As of 20 May 2026, the three teams most likely to lift the trophy are France (decimal odds 5.46), Spain (6.21) and England (9.09). Argentina, Brazil, Portugal and Germany follow as the second tier of contenders. Spain at 6.21 is currently the value pick of the favourites.
Are there any Singapore teams playing in the World Cup 2026?
No. Singapore’s national team did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Lions exited in the second round of AFC qualifiers in 2024, per the Football Association of Singapore’s published qualifying record. The next realistic qualification campaign for Singapore will be the 2030 cycle.
What is the best Asian handicap bet at the World Cup?
There is no single “best” line; value depends on the matchup. For heavy favourites against group minnows (Spain vs Cape Verde, France vs Iraq), look at -1.5 or -2 lines where the price compensates for the margin requirement. For tight matches (Netherlands vs Japan, England vs Croatia), the 0 or -0.25 line is usually the cleanest play. Always compare two or three books before staking.
Can I legally bet on the World Cup 2026 from Singapore?
Yes, two routes are legal. Singapore Pools is the state-licensed option, with online and physical-outlet access. Offshore sportsbooks holding a recognised gaming licence (such as the Anjouan Internet Gaming Licence) are also accessible to Singapore residents. You must be 21 or older for either route.
How do I convert US match times to SGT?
SGT is GMT+8. US east-coast kick-offs (3:00 PM ET, for example) are 12 hours behind, so a 3:00 PM ET match is 3:00 AM SGT the next day. Pacific time (Los Angeles) is 15 hours behind SGT. Always confirm against your sportsbook’s match list because some Canadian fixtures use Central or Mountain time.
Will Cristiano Ronaldo play in the 2026 World Cup?
Yes. Ronaldo was named in Portugal’s squad for the qualifying campaign and is expected to lead the line in Group K. At 41, this will almost certainly be his final World Cup. Portugal are priced at 12.05 to win the tournament.
